Katie | Class of 2012

Just before the end of summer, Katie, her mom, and I explored downtown Grand Rapids for her senior session. There was lots of giggling (as you’ll see in the photos, she has such a great laugh!) Katie and I met while doing theater at Master Arts when I was a junior in high school and I was so excited when she asked me to take her senior pictures.
Katie, have a fantastic senior year!

Moving Day

Photobucket
Joe Fontaine takes a moment to glance out the window while his bird, Gray Cloud, rests on his shoulder, before leaving his apartment of 14 years. Fontaine moved out of Morton House Apartments on Thursday, August 12; everyone living in the 199 rented units has until August 31st to move out.

I had the opportunity to shadow Cory Morse at the Grand Rapids Press today and learned a lot from watching and shooting with him.  Cory is a fantastic photojournalist and I really admire his work and his attitude as a photographer and a journalist, so it was great to get some one-on-one time and advice for what to do after I’m done at the Sentinel.  I also got to meet some wonderful people helping out mentally ill poor and homeless in the Grand Rapids area.  I’ll be posting a photo story of this soon, but in the meantime, check out Servants Center

This is why I love what I do.

Tom and Jo are married!

PhotobucketI was in Little Rock, Arkansas the last weekend in July  for my cousin’s wedding. Jo and Tom–your wedding was so beautiful and unique.  The settting was a gorgeous plantation full of southern class. Jo is my cousin so spending a day at work with my family–many of whom I haven’t seen in years–made this wedding even more fun for me.  It was wonderful to be a part of your wedding day, Tom and Jo.

This year I’ve started to do weddings on my own as an associate photographer with Phrene–Exquisite Photography.  Last summer I worked with Phrene, helping her with engagement shoots and a few weddings and also managing her blog.  She has taught me so much–both technically and also professionally–and I wouldn’t be shooting weddings without her.  Photographing weddings has been an adventure and such a blessing; I couldn’t have asked for a better start.

This will be the only wedding image I blog here for now, but if you’re interested in more of my work as a wedding photographer, you can see my portfolio here (under galleries) and some of my more recent work on the blog.

John + Ashley

John and Ashley were married on June 11.  Their wedding was perfect–I’ve never had a wedding that ran completely on schedule, but I wasn’t surprised that Ashley’s did.  Ashley is a good friend from college and I loved being able to document her and John’s beautiful wedding.  Congrats, John and Ashley!  God bless your new marriage.

Seriously–isn’t she so gorgeous! Just look at those eyes!

That veil is the same one her mother wore when she was married and the lace matched Ashley’s dress perfectly.

Traverse City

Photobucket

Last week my family and I spent a few days in gorgeous Traverse City.  This was one of my favorite vacations–lazy, hot days spent exploring beautiful lake shores and vineyards and downtown Traverse City that always ended in trips to get ice cream and swimming in Silver Lake.  It was a great time to just relax for a few days and spend time with my family.  I know we’ll remember this vacation in the years to come.
